I knew this was going to occur eventually, but someone forgot to pass me the memo that Barack Obama was appealing to Republicans. Hold on a minute, Republicans voting for uber-liberal Barack Obama…no way! Then, euphoria arrived and reminded me that there are certain Republicans who tend to be influenced by liberal limeade. I guess this is what our party deserves after straying away from the core principles of limited government, lower taxes and more protection of liberty and freedom. We are currently being punished for this by the voters who were drawn to our party when we strayed from these principles.
The Examiner reported this new phenomenon about the rise of Republicans crossing the road to support Barack Obama in the General Election. The reason given was that people have lost trust in the leadership of President Bush and have been unsatisfied with John McCain. I guess the word “change” has impressed these Republicans and Obama’s charisma has energized their base. However, change seems to be a common theme addressed by Obama, and yet, there has been no consistency of this change in any Obama stump speech. If these Obama Republicans believe that increased taxes and universal health care represents change, then they should be educated on what would represent an economy that would be on a verge of collapse. If an immediate withdrawal of troops from the War against Terror is the appeal, then I guess another terrorist attack will occur and more lives would be lost. (I know this will bring about outrage due to my neo-conservative views on National Defense.)
What is so appealing about Barack Obama? I posed this question in a previous post. I like the fact that he energizes both young and old alike, but his policies are extremely liberal. This Republican will not be supporting Obama due to his policy proposals. I am uncertain if I will vote for McCain at this point or write in Ron Paul for the General Election. Obama is not an option. Although if Obama wins, this will eventually help the Republican party and serve as a reminder to return to conservative principles. If this happens, we will have a Republican insurgence in the House and Senate and a possible return to the White House.
